Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man and the wounding of a juvenile female at 8048 Juliabora Street about 1:20 a.m. on December 17, 2023.
The suspect, Joshua Rodriguez, 20, is charged with murder in the 487th Criminal District Court. A booking photo of Rodriguez is attached to the news release.
The victim is identified as Filiberto Puente, 67.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives K. Fregia, B. Stephens, A Vinogradov and J. Diaz reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at a residence at the above address and found the victim unresponsive in the living room. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased by responding Houston Fire Department paramedics. A female juvenile suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg and was transported by paramedics to an area hospital where she was treated and later released.
A preliminary investigation determined a large group of people were attending a birthday party and, at some point, several attendees got into a physical fight that escalated into a shooting and resulted in the two victims being shot.
Further investigation developed Joshua Rodriguez as a suspect in this shooting. On Monday (Sept. 28), officers with the HPD Eastside Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team arrested Rodriguez. He was subsequently charged for his role in this fatal shooting and booked into the Harris County jail.
