Yesterday, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent met with Japanese Minister of Finance Satsuki Katayama. During their talks, Secretary Bessent thanked Minister Katayama for Japan’s leadership on energy and financial issues.
Noting Prime Minister Takaichi’s successful visit to the United States, Secretary Bessent reaffirmed the strong alliance between the United States and Japan and maintaining even-closer communications. The Secretary also noted Assistant Secretary for Investment Security Chris Pilkerton’s recent engagements in Japan as pertaining to CFIUS, and pledged the Treasury’s strong support for the Japanese government as they explore pathways towards the implementation of their own investment screening mechanism.
