Task Force Nabs Fugitive in Downtown Drug Bust

The Dallas Police Department’s Downtown Task Force arrested an out-of-state fugitive while he was selling drugs in the 400 block of north Lamar Street on June 27, 2025, at about 9 p.m. Downtown Task Force officers on a foot patrol observed 33-year-old Dencel Idris conduct a drug sale, at which point he ran from officers before ultimately being tased and taken into custody. Idris had about 26 grams of cocaine at the time of his arrest, was wanted on multiple felony warrants out of Arizona, and is a documented gang member.

“Proactively disrupting criminal networks and seizing dangerous drugs before they reach our streets is our priority,” said Assistant Chief Mark Villarreal. “Every day, our officers are protecting lives with their dedication and vigilance.”

Idris was charged with Evading Arrest or Detention, a Class A Misdemeanor; Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance, first degree felony; and arrested on felony warrants from Arizona. This investigation is documented under case number 091478-2025.
