Tampa Police, Yerrid Host 5th Youth Fishing Clinic

Tampa Police

This year marks the fifth year in a row that the Yerrid Foundation has partnered with Rise Tampa, Our Police Foundation, to host a free fishing clinic for over 100 Tampa children aged 15 and under. The clinic will take place off the waters of Picnic Island on Saturday, June 6, 2026, starting at 9:00 am.

Tampa Police Officers, professional staff, and Tampa Bay Fishing Guide Captain Sergio Atanes will be joined by top charter captains from the Tampa Bay area in educating the younger generation on the rules, and the enjoyment of fishing. The Tampa Police Marine Unit will also be at the event giving tours of their boats and providing some safety tips.

“Reaching this five-year milestone shows just how impactful this partnership has become for our community,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “We are casting a line into the future of our youth and reeling in strong bonds of mentorship. We are incredibly grateful to the Yerrid Foundation for helping us give these kids an experience that stays with them long after the summer ends.”

The clinic provides children with valuable fishing skills and knowledge, while also offering a fun and educational experience away from technology. It also fosters mentorship opportunities between police officers, fishing captains, and the young participants. Each child will receive a rod and reel combo to keep, allowing them to continue honing their newfound skills.

The Yerrid Foundation’s donation will also extend its reach to support the Tampa Police Department’s RICH House program , providing a haven and resources for children in Tampa. Each location is run by a Tampa Police Officer who serves as a role model, tutor, and liaison between residents and the police department. The sites offer after-school and summer school programming, in addition to access to family social services.
