At approximately 10:05 pm Monday night, a 19-year-old female bicyclist was riding westbound on W. Waters Ave. on the far-right side of the roadway when she was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound in the far-right lane. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and render aid, leaving the woman injured and driving away after the crash.
The woman was transported to a nearby hospital, in critical condition. Investigators immediately began gathering evidence to identify and locate the suspect vehicle.
Tragically, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. the bicyclist died from the injuries she suffered in the crash. Detectives, continuing to develop leads in the case, have been able to successfully identify several car parts they recovered from the scene as coming from a 2013-2016 model year Toyota Rav4.
At this time, detectives are asking for assistance from our community. Anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the crash and may have seen something is asked to call the Tampa Police Department at 813-231-6130 and refer to report 26-309099.
Investigators also encourage business owners and residents in the area to check any surveillance video they may have at or around the time of the crash to see if they have any video that could be useful. Even the smallest lead could help solve this case and provide some closure to the family as they navigate this difficult time.
