TAMPA, Fla. (September 26, 2025) — The Tampa Police Department is once again joining forces with the Institute for Police Technology and Management (IPTM) and The University of North Florida (UNF) to take part in a statewide safety campaign focused on reducing serious injury and fatal crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists.

Running through May 2026, the initiative will bring an increased police presence to Tampa’s roadways to help raise awareness about Florida’s traffic laws and the shared responsibility of everyone using the streets. Officers will conduct targeted enforcement and educational outreach, aiming to improve safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists alike.

“This campaign is about saving lives and preventing tragedies before they happen,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “By educating roadway users and enforcing traffic laws, we hope to create safer streets for everyone in our community.”

As part of the campaign, officers will focus efforts on several high-traffic areas throughout the city, including:

  • East Busch Boulevard
  • West Hillsborough Avenue
  • North Nebraska Avenue
  • East Fowler Avenue
  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard
  • West Kennedy Boulevard
  • North Florida Avenue
  • North and South Dale Mabry Highway
  • Downtown Area

The campaign is part of the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow initiative. Funded through a contract with FDOT and IPTM, the program prioritizes education and enforcement in areas with a history of severe crashes, with the goal of preventing future injuries and deaths.
