TAMPA, FL. (OCTOBER 21, 2025) – – Tampa Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian on Monday, October 20, 2025, near N 50th St. and E 30th Ave.

“The quick work of detectives and the attentiveness of patrol officers led to a swift arrest in this tragic case,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw. “We hope that this timely resolution provides the victim’s family with a first step toward closure during this incredibly difficult time.”

The initial incident occurred at approximately 8:00 pm Monday night when a woman in her mid-40s was fatally struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on N. 50th St. The striking vehicle fled the scene. A second vehicle subsequently struck the victim, but the driver stopped, called 911, and cooperated fully with investigators.

Detectives immediately began investigating, recovering key pieces of evidence, including vehicle parts from the striking car. Investigators determined the parts belonged to the passenger-side mirror of a 2018-2024 gray Volkswagen Tiguan. Camera footage from the area further captured images of a Volkswagen Tiguan exhibiting damage consistent with the crash.

The detailed investigation led to a rapid resolution. On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, an alert Tampa Police officer spotted a vehicle matching the suspect’s description, a gray Volkswagen Tiguan with crash-consistent damage, at an ATM near W. Hillsborough Ave. and N. Armenia Ave. Officers quickly located the driver, now identified as 30-year-old Jeramey Sanders (black male, 3/15/1995), at a nearby store and detained him.

The damage to the vehicle and additional evidence collected were confirmed to match those from the crash scene. A DHSMV inquiry also revealed that Sanders’ Florida driver’s license is suspended.

Sanders was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Death, and Violation of Financial Responsibility Law. He was transported to Orient Road Jail, and his vehicle was impounded.
