TAMPA, Fla. (October 22, 2025) — Tampa Police have arrested the driver who fired shots after a crash Wednesday morning near the westbound exit of the Selmon Expressway onto East Kennedy Boulevard
At around 8:05 a.m., officers responded after reports of a traffic crash involving several vehicles. The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2010 gray Mazda 3, later identified as Kevin Arriola (W/M 11/27/1995), was driving erratically along the exit ramp before colliding with multiple vehicles.
Arriola then exited his vehicle, armed with a gun, and shot toward a 2017 red Chrysler 300. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported in the shooting or the related crashes.
Deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office encountered Arriola a short distance from the scene and quickly detained him. Tampa Police officers then assumed custody of the individual and the investigation.
“This was an extremely dangerous and senseless situation that could have easily resulted in tragedy,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw. “We are grateful for our strong partnership with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and the actions of the deputies who quickly took the suspect into custody before anyone was seriously hurt.”
Arriola was charged with First Degree Attempted Murder; Aggravated Battery with a Firearm; Possession of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony; and Shooting at/into a Vehicle.
This is an active investigation, and additional details may be shared when available.
