TAMPA, FL. (August 4, 2025) – – The Tampa Police Athletic League (PAL) is excited to announce its upcoming basketball tournament, an event that will showcase the positive impact of mentorship and community engagement. The tournament features players between the ages of 12 and 14, all coached by officers from the Tampa Police Department.
“This basketball tournament is a literal example of community policing in action,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “It is also a chance for the community to come out and see, firsthand, the positive role models in our police department and the incredible impact they are having on the lives of these young players.”
The tournament is more than just a competition. It provides a platform to highlight one of the many youth-focused programs offered by the Tampa Police Department. Young athletes get to interact with police officers in a positive and supportive environment, fostering trust and building strong community bonds. The coaches serve as mentors, helping the young athletes develop not only their basketball skills but also important life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
