Tampa’s Fleet is Tough to Beat
The City of Tampa’s fleet is receiving national recognition from several organizations for its high-performing operations and contributions to the industry.
Government Fleet, a nationwide publication focused on public sector vehicles and equipment management, announced Tampa in its Top 50 Leading Fleets for 2025. NAFA – the world’s largest Fleet Management Association – also named Tampa in its 100 Best Fleets of 2025. This is the first year Tampa claims a spot on these highly competitive lists that compare city, county, and state fleets across the United States.
Tampa’s fleet consists of approximately 3,887 city-owned vehicles across several departments, including those serving the Tampa Police Department and Tampa Fire Rescue. The department is responsible for maintaining these vehicles and ensuring every department has what they need to provide the best quality service to Tampa’s residents. In fiscal year 2024, the department achieved approximately $1 million in operational savings through various efficiency measures. To enhance efficiency and address escalating costs, some of these savings were strategically reinvested into workforce training and acquisition of essential equipment and tools. This approach aims to foster a more self-sufficient and sustainable operation.
“Maintaining Tampa’s fleet is an around the clock operation, and everyone, from our mechanics, to our supervisors, and administrative staff, are working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our city moving – literally,” said Adriana Colina, Director of Logistics and Asset Management. “Not only does the team get the job done, they are now serving as an example for other municipalities who want to follow in Tampa’s steps.”
Tampa’s fleet headquarters, located at the City Center on Hanna Avenue, also recently received LEED Silver certification for the sustainability features that went the facility’s design and construction. Construction of a new fleet facility, dedicated to Wastewater vehicles, will begin soon with more details to come.
