Suspects Charged in 2023 Wilcrest Dr. Fatal Shooting

Charges have been filed against three suspects arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 1251 Wilcrest Drive about 10:45 p.m. on September 17, 2023.

The suspects, Jason Taylor, 19, Treyveon Barnes, 19, Javail Brazil, 19, are charged with capital murder in the 180th Criminal District Court. Booking photos of all three suspects are attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Juan Capote-Palma, 20.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants A. Lopez and K. Meek and Detectives N. Sharp and S. Overstreet reported:

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex parking lot at the above address and upon arrival, found Houston Fire Department paramedics transporting the victim to an area hospital in critical condition. The victim, later identified as Mr. Capote-Palma, was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Preliminary investigation indicated Capote-Palma’s vehicle had crashed into several vehicles in the apartment complex parking lot and the victim was found in the driver’s seat with a gunshot wound. Witnesses stated they observed several males wearing masks and dark clothing running through the complex and heard multiple gunshots. Detectives determined Capote-Palma was robbed at the location.

Further investigation identified Taylor, Barnes and Brazil as suspects in this incident. On November 19, 2025, all three suspects were charged for their role in the shooting. Brazil was already in the Harris County Jail for unrelated charges. HPD officers with the Westside Patrol Division and South Gessner Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team’s arrested Taylor and Barnes on November 24 and December 1, respectively.
