The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect in an assault with a dangerous weapon (gun) offense that occurred in Northwest.
On Sunday, August 23, 2026, at approximately 2:02 a.m., the suspect approached the victim at 12th Street and U Street, Northwest. The suspect brandished a handgun, pointed it at the victim, and threatened them. The suspect then fled the scene.
On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 38-year-old Waqas Zulfiqar, of Woodbridge, VA. Zulfiqar was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).
