Suspect Charged, Sought in 2200 W. Bellfort Shooting

Houston police are searching for a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a man at 2200 West Bellfort Avenue about 2:30 p.m. on May 23.

The suspect, Carltonio Jackson, 22, is charged with murder in the 179th State District Court. A photo of Jackson, who is not in custody, is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Phillip Ogiemwonyi, 35.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives S. Chettry and H. Martinez reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting along with Metro Police Department officers at the above address. The victim was found lying on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital by Houston Fire Department paramedics where he was pronounced deceased. The victim was later identified as Mr. Ogiemwonyi.

Further investigation revealed Ogiemwonyi had been in an argument with a male on the Metro bus. The suspect then drew a weapon and shot him. Investigators subsequently released surveillance photos of the suspect.

Further investigation identified the suspect as Jackson. He was charged for his role in this incident on Wednesday (May 28) and remains at-large.
