Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a woman and wounding of a man at 7358 Fairway Drive about 11:05 p.m. on Tuesday (June 16).
The suspect, Michael Ellis, 48, is charged with murder in the 184th State District Court. A booking photo of Ellis is attached to this news release.
The identity of the female victim, 46, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives J. Diaz and G. Zavala reported:
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at 7210 South Loop East (South Interstate Highway 610 East) and found a male with a gunshot wound in the parking lot. The male informed officers that the shooting occurred in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 7358 Fairway Drive. The wounded male was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
During the investigation at the apartment complex, officers were notified of a suspicious person with a weapon call at the same location that matched the description provided by the male victim. The reportee stated she was informed by her brother that he had fatally shot his girlfriend.
Further investigation determined the suspect and the female victim lived in the same apartment complex. HPD SWAT officers made entry into the victim’s apartment and found the victim unresponsive. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The suspect, identified as Ellis, was not in the apartment. HPD officers later located Ellis at about 3 a.m. and took him into custody. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was consulted and the suspect was subsequently charged and booked into the Harris County Jail.
