Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a man at 103 Glenborough Drive about 11:30 p.m. on August 9.
Eddie Lopez Jr., 19, is charged with murder in the 185th Criminal District Court. A booking photo of Lopez is attached to this news release.
The victim is identified as Rafael Martinez Jr., 19.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Clark and Detective M. Nicotra reported:
Officers responded to a report of a shooting that had occurred on the North Freeway (Interstate Highway 45) inbound lane at the Greens Road exit. Officers were then flagged down by the occupants of a vehicle that had been fired on. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to an area hospital. On August 10, Mr. Martinez was pronounced deceased.
HPD’s Major Assaults Division investigators were assigned the case and conducted an initial investigation until Martinez’s death, when HPD Homicide detectives took over the investigation. The investigation led to the identification of the suspect as Lopez.
On Tuesday (Sept. 15) Lopez was arrested by the HPD Special Response Team and the Eastside Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team. He was then charged for his role in the fatal shooting.
