Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man and the apparent suicide of a second male found at 4411 North Shepherd Drive about 4:20 p.m. on September 11.
The identities of the male victim, 59, and the male suspect, 20, are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Special Investigations Unit Detectives M. Childs and K. Vu reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a stabbing call at the above address and located a male suffering from stab wounds. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the male to an area hospital.
Officers were notified the male suspect stabbed his brother and fled to the apartment. The male suspect was barricaded inside the apartment and officers attempted to make contact with him.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and an arrest warrant for aggravated assault against a family member was obtained by responding HPD officers.
HPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) was also contacted to assist at the scene. As they were arriving, officers heard a gunshot from inside the apartment and saw flames coming from a fire inside the apartment. A second gunshot was then heard towards the back of the apartment.
Once the fire was extinguished, HPD SWAT entered the apartment and located two unresponsive males. Both males were found with gunshot wounds, the male suspect was found with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Both were pronounced deceased at the scene.
