On February 8, 2026, at about 7:36 p.m. Dallas Police responded to the 5100 block of Lemmon Ave. in reference to a male subject wanting to harm himself with a weapon.
Officers knocked on the front door of the apartment, and the suspect answered the front door with a box cutter in his right hand and slammed the door in the officers face.
The suspect could be heard saying through the door “Put away the taser, I don’t want to f*cking stab myself. I want to get shot. “
At the same time officers could hear the suspect yell at someone inside the apartment, “This is your fault.”
A short time later, the suspect opened the front door again, aggressively charged at officers while reaching for an officer’s gun.
Officers fired shots at the suspect, striking the suspect in the upper torso. Officers immediately rendered medical aid to the suspect.
The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.
This is the third officer-involved shooting of 2026.
