On July 27, 2025, at approximately 2:20 a.m., officers were working in a uniformed off-duty capacity in the 10700 block of Finnell Street, when officers heard a gunshot.
The preliminary information determined that when officers went toward the sound of the gunshot, they observed the suspect and the victim fighting in a parking lot.
The suspect had a gun in his hand. One officer gave loud verbal commands to the suspect. The suspect refused to comply with the officer’s commands and ran away.
Additional officers confronted the suspect with the gun in his hand and after multiple loud verbal commands to drop the gun, one officer fired his handgun, hitting the suspect.
Officers immediately provided emergency medical treatment until Dallas Fire Rescue arrived. The suspect was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
No officers were injured.
The victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the face. He was treated at the scene.
The Office of Community Police Oversight was notified and responded.
The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office was notified, responded, and will conduct their own investigation.
