MPD Probes Fatal DC-295 Crash

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on DC-295.

On Saturday, January 3, 2026, at approximately 7:52 p.m., Seventh District officers responded to northbound DC-295, prior to exit 1, Southeast for the report of a traffic crash involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation determined that a black 2000 Chevy Silverado was traveling northbound on DC295 in the far-left lane, when the vehicle struck a pedestrian who was walking in the roadway. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after all lifesaving efforts failed, the pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Chevy remained on the scene after hitting the pedestrian.

The decedent has been identified as 60-year-old William Gardner, of no fixed address.
