The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Southeast.
On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at approximately 11:47 p.m., Seventh District officers responded for the report of a shooting in the 800 block of Chesapeake Street, Southeast. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life, pronounced the victim dead on scene.
The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Michael Barnes, of Southeast, D.C.
Anyone who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police
