MPD Nabs Suspect in Armed Heist

The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect in connection to an armed robbery in Northwest.

On Monday, January 27, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the victim and the suspect met up in the 1000 block of I Street, Northwest, to make a transaction from Facebook Marketplace. When the victim pulled out the item, the suspect took the item, brandished a firearm, then fled the scene.

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, pursuant to an active arrest warrant, members of the United States Marshall’s Service located 29-year-old Brian Kelly, of Northeast, DC. Kelly was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery (Gun).

MPD is also encouraging residents to use designated Safe Exchange Zones if meeting up with people to complete transactions from online market platforms. These designated areas serve as a safe place for people to exchange goods or money in order to prevent pre-staged robberies.

MPD also strongly encourages the public to be especially wary of meeting people who refuse to meet at a Safe Exchange Zone location.
