The fatal shooting of a burglary suspect in the 3200 block of San Felipe Street at about 2:50 p.m. on Sunday (May 4) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
The identity of the deceased male suspect is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants P. Michon and I. Barrett reported:
Officers responded to a report of a River Oaks Security Officer needing assistance at the above address. The security officer had suffered a gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to an area hospital in stable condition.
The suspect was located lying on the ground between a park fence and a residential fence. He had suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Further investigation revealed the security officer had responded to a burglary in progress, located the suspect and pursued him on foot. As the security officer attempted to detain the suspect, the suspect resisted and fired a pistol at the security officer, striking his protective vest. The security officer then returned fire, striking the suspect. The suspect attempted to flee on foot and fired his weapon a second time, striking the security officer in the shoulder.
After consulting the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, it was determined the case would be referred to the Harris County grand jury.
