Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a male suspect by Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies in the 7800 block of Fulton Street at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday (January 28).
The identity of the male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Special Investigations Unit Detectives A. Henderson and J. Windham reported:
Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office were working the Metro light rail platform at the above address when they were approached by a female passenger stating a male was exposing himself on the light rail cars.
The deputies attempted to detain the suspect as he exited the light rail. The suspect refused to obey verbal commands and attempted to evade. During the encounter, the suspect produced a knife and cut one of the deputies.
Both deputies discharged their duty weapons striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to an area hospital where doctors pronounced him deceased.
The injured deputy was transported to an area hospital and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
As is customary when any law enforcement agency officer discharges a weapon in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit.
