Fatal Pedestrian Crash Under MPD Investigation

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash in Southeast.

On Monday, August 18, 2025, at approximately 1:50 a.m., Seventh District officers responded to the 900 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast, for reports of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male unconscious and not breathing, suffering injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and despite all lifesaving measures, the victim was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 33-year-old Robert Hilldrup, of no fixed address.

The preliminary investigation determined, while crossing midblock outside of the crosswalk from the west side of the street to the east side, a dark colored SUV, traveling northbound, struck the pedestrian. The striking vehicle fled the scene without making their identity known.

Detectives from MPD’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are handling this investigation.
