Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 8700 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) service road about 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday (February 24).
The identity and age of the deceased female is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant V. Vo and Officer C. Vargas reported:
A gray Volkswagen Jetta was traveling southbound while taking the exit ramp at the above address. A female pedestrian was also attempting to cross the moving lanes of traffic when the Volkswagen struck the female. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported her to an area hospital where doctors pronounced her deceased.
The driver of the Volkswagen remained at the scene, did not show signs of intoxication, and was questioned and released.
The investigation is ongoing.
