Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 5100 Ella Boulevard about 12:15 a.m. today (July 9).
The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Barrow and Officer F. Flynn reported:
The driver of a blue Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling northbound on Ella Boulevard at the above address when he lost control, and crashed into a tree in the divided median of the street. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by responding Houston Fire Department paramedics. The driver was transported to an area hospital.
The driver stated he was attempting to avoid a possible animal in the roadway when he lost control. He did not show signs of intoxication.
The investigation is continuing.
