Houston police are investigating the fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred at 100 North Chartres Street about 10:10 p.m. Sunday (July 6).
The identity of the deceased male, 67, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer A. Thomas reported:
The driver of a black Toyota Camry was traveling northbound at the above address when the vehicle struck a pedestrian crossing eastbound on Chartres, not in a crosswalk. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
The female driver of the Toyota, Shantel Katelyn Thomas, 29, was determined to be impaired and was subsequently arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Harris County Criminal Court #9. A booking photo of Thomas is attached to this news release.
The investigation into the crash is continuing.
