Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 5400 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 12:55 a.m. today (Feb. 10).
The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer T. Hudson reported:
The driver of a white Acura NSX was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of the East Freeway when the driver struck a red Kia K5, driving westbound on the freeway, head-on. The Acura then caught fire, crossed three lanes of traffic and came to a rest on the northbound side of the freeway. Responding Houston Fire Department firefighters and paramedics pronounced the driver deceased at the scene after extinguishing the fire.
The female driver of the Kia, 21, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
