Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 4417 Bennington Street about 4:45 p.m. on Monday (July 7).
The identities of the two deceased persons, a male driver and female passenger, are pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. James and Officer C. Vargas reported:
The driver of a grey INFINITI G37 was traveling westbound on Bennington Street at the above address when the driver failed to maintain a single lane and drove into the eastbound lanes and struck a parked blue Rivian van head on. The van, which was parked on the side of the roadway, was unoccupied at the time, and the impact caused the van to land in a ditch parallel to the road.
The male driver of the INFINITI was pronounced dead at the scene by responding Houston Fire Department paramedics. A female passenger was ejected and landed underneath the van. She was also pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers, a male and female, were both transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
The van’s driver, who was not in the van at the time of the crash, was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
