Duffy Launches Challenge for Inspiring Infrastructure Designs

USDOT’s “Beautifying Transportation Infrastructure Challenge” awards up to $650,000 for citizens of all ages to create infrastructure designs that embody American greatness

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy today launched the “Beautifying Transportation Infrastructure Challenge” – an exciting competition where individuals of all ages and experience can submit creative infrastructure design concepts that capture the spirit and greatness of America. Design categories include bridges, transit hubs and corridors, and rural transportation-related features. Participants and their designs will compete for cash prizes.

“From the Golden Gate Bridge to Grand Central Station, America has a proud history of building stunning transportation landmarks that move us,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy. “Fast forward to today, and it’s clear we’ve lost sight of the role beautiful transportation infrastructure can play in celebrating American values and inspiring national pride. This challenge is an opportunity for innovators and creatives to become a part of America’s history by sharing a design that could be the next great airport or bridge that moves Americans for generations.”

The challenge offers $650,000 in total prize money across three categories:

  • Professional Tier (Established Designers): $500,000 total pool; top winner gets $250,000.
  • Public Tier (Independent Artists & Citizens): $100,000 total pool; top winner gets $50,000.
  • Student Tier (Grades 6-12): $50,000 total pool; top winner gets $25,000.

Under President Donald J. Trump’s agenda to make federal architecture beautiful again, Secretary Duffy also established the Beautifying Transportation Infrastructure Council in September 2025.
