Dallas Police: FIFA World Cup Planning Update

Dallas Police

Last week, the federal government awarded more than $51.5 million dollars to Dallas to support security efforts surrounding the FIFA World Cup. Of that funding, more than $22 million is to ensure full preparation to protect Dallas at the highest level.

In addition, more than 1.3 million has been allocated for equipment that will strengthen our operational capabilities which include our camera network, increasing portable anti-ramming barricades, deploying utility vehicles for rapid response and securing leased vehicles to support the scale of this event.

The Department has also received more than $10 million through a separate grant dedicated to drone mitigation technology. This investment will allow us to proactively address emerging threats from unmanned aerial systems and further enhance safety across all venues.

The funding for equipment includes:

  • Nearly $880,000 for additional cameras
  • Almost $258,000 for portable anti-ramming barricades
  • $67,107 for two Polaris Ranger utility vehicles
  • $72,000 for leased vehicles for use during the tournament

“We are excited to welcome the world to Dallas for this historic international event,” said Chief Daniel C. Comeaux. “This moment is not just for our city, but for our entire region to showcase who we are.”
