Arrest Made in Southeast D.C. Fatal Shooting

The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Southeast.

On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Seventh District officers responded to the 3000 block of Martin Luther King Jr Avenue, Southeast, for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, unconscious and not breathing, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced deceased.

The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Derrick Howard, of Baltimore, MD.

As a result of the detective’s investigation, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 31-year-old Andre Townsend of Upper Marlboro, MD, was arrested. Townsend was charged with Second Degree Murder While Armed.
